Community Chairs

Kapwa’s Community Service strives to serve our community at Loyola University and the Chicagoland area through leadership, friendship, and compassion. The Community Service team is committed to developing a deeper appreciation, understanding, and respect for our surrounding community. Each member of Kapwa will have the opportunity to participate in volunteer services at various non-profit organizations and several of our larger events like Relay for Life while fully immersing themselves in the Kapwa spirit. We hope that each member that participates in Community Service gains experience and knowledge to will allow them to grow as future leaders that will inspire others to do the same. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead

Co-Community Service: Cassandra Martinez “Cassie”

Hi! My name is Cassandra Martinez and I currently hold the position of Community Service co-chair for the 2011-2012 academic school year. I have continuously been involved in several community service opportunities such as volunteering in local soup kitchens, performing for benefit shows and other fundraising events, and participating in numerous walks to raise money and awareness for specific organizations such as Relay for Life, Aids Walk, and most recently, the Hunger Walk. Helping others is something I love to do, and I believe it is important to give back to the community and support in any way possible. This summer, we hope to coordinate a few events to those who are available, but during the school year, we intend on having monthly activities as well as a few one-time service opportunities spread throughout the school year to ensure every member can attend at least once! With the help of my co-chair, Annemarie Martin, we hope to make Kapwa more involved in helping the greater Chicago community through various service opportunities, and to create a better sense of appreciation for our fellow neighbors and each other. :] I am currently a sophomore with a major in Nursing at Loyola University. I’m afraid of any type of bug, I enjoy drawing, listening to music, and of course, eating. :] I love to be laughed at, I love to laugh, and I love life! 😀
